Fly: A Modular System for Adapting Homes

Transforming Spaces with Linda Martins' Innovative Design

Inspired by the need to adapt our homes to our changing lives during the pandemic, Linda Martins created Fly, a modular system that revolutionizes the concept of home design. With its minimalist aesthetic and versatile functionality, Fly offers a unique solution for transforming spaces and embracing the new normal.

Fly is a hybrid and modular system that was developed during the quarantine period in Brazil. It represents a shift in perspective, highlighting the importance of adapting our living spaces to meet our evolving needs. The system consists of two structures of different heights, featuring drilled channels, bars, shelves, and butterfly screws that allow for countless layout configurations. From the office to the bedroom, including the kitchen, Fly seamlessly integrates into various environments.

One of the key strengths of Fly is its simplicity and ease of use. By fixing the bars with butterfly screws into the drilled channels of the frame, users can effortlessly assemble and disassemble the system on their own. This empowers individuals to customize their spaces without the need for professional assistance, uniting form and function in a user-friendly manner.

When it comes to materials, Fly showcases a combination of brass, steel, and reused pressed wood. This sustainable approach not only adds to the system's durability but also contributes to its elegant and timeless design. The butterfly-shaped screws serve as both functional elements and symbolic reminders of freedom, encouraging users to explore their imagination and embrace the possibilities of their transformed spaces.

The Fly modular system was meticulously designed by Linda Martins, a visionary in the field of hybrid furniture. Her research into technology and creative solutions for adaptable furniture led to the development of Fly, which seamlessly integrates into the lives of individuals seeking to redefine their living spaces.

The project, which began in July 2020 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, was completed in August 2021. Throughout the design process, Linda Martins faced the challenge of creating a system that could be easily assembled without professional help, while maintaining a harmonious balance between form and function. Her dedication and innovative thinking resulted in a truly transformative design.

Recognizing the excellence of Fly, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. Fly's ability to seamlessly adapt to changing needs and its incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology make it a true testament to Linda Martins' vision and expertise.

With Fly, Linda Martins has redefined the concept of home design, offering individuals the freedom to transform their spaces according to their unique requirements. This modular system not only reflects the changing times but also empowers users to take control of their living environments, creating a harmonious balance between functionality and aesthetics.
